When it comes to fall hosting, few pairings feel as effortless or as satisfying as a thoughtfully crafted charcuterie board and a perfectly poured glass of wine. We turned to Sarah Skarsten, owner and winemaker at Yellowstone Cellars & Winery, to share her favorite seasonal pours along with expert pairing tips. Her curated picks bring warmth, balance, and a touch of sophistication to your next gathering.

Sauvignon Blanc
"While often considered a summer wine due to its citrus and tree fruit notes, its strong herbaceous character makes it perfect for fall."
Sangiovese
"This is one of our favorite 'food wines.' Full of bright fruit flavors and high acidity, it doesn't get lost in rich and hearty fall dishes."
Cabernet Franc
"This is one of my favorite fall wines. While it has hints of red fruits, it also boasts a savory, smoky nature with notes of chili, bell pepper, and even peppercorn. It has high acidity and tannins but a bolder flavor, so pair it with some of the more robust flavors on your charcuterie board."

Build Your Board: Local Bites to Pair with Every Pour
To complement Sarah’s wine pairings, we turned to Town and County Foods, a local grocery store favorite with a wonderful selection of Montana-made products. Whether you’re pairing with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc or a bold Cabernet Franc, this board brings together texture, flavor, and balance.
What's on the Board
This beautifully curated spread blends savory, sweet, and local flavors. Here's a peek at what's featured:

Local Tip:
Mix sweet, savory, crunchy, and creamy elements for a board that pairs beautifully with both white and red wines. And don’t forget to leave room for conversation, it’s the best pairing of all.
