Reading Rocks 2020 | June 15-July 23

Reading Rocks provides reading activities for six weeks during the summer in conjunction with School District 2's Free Lunch in the Parks, a program that serves over 45,000 free lunches during the course of the summer. Reading Rocks is designed to help low income students continue reading over the summer when reading levels are known to drop. Reading Rocks will provide children with a free book to keep each time they stop by and a new bookmark each day with interactive reading activities. Reading Rocks will follow social distancing and sanitation guidelines for the safety of our children, families, and volunteers. Please join us this summer to keep our kids reading!!

Ways to get involved in 2020:

  • Volunteer as a storyteller that reads a short book. The storyteller may also offer an activity for the children that relates to your organization in a fun and interesting way. Education Foundation staff will work with the guest storyteller to record them reading the book aloud to share with children via QR codes.
  • Volunteer to talk about topics of interest (e.g. a fireman talks about fire safety, a bicyclist discusses rules of the road and bicycle parts, an artist describes how he makes a sculpture, etc.).
  • Volunteer to assist in distributing books at Reading Rocks locations and times.
  • Donate gently used or new books to be distributed throughout the program. Interested people may drop books off at the Lincoln Center and leave a note with their information on it and that the books should be directed to the Education Foundation.

 How To Volunteer:
