Winter Grace

"Adopt the Pace of Nature: Her secret is patience."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

As the calendar turns and we usher in a new year, I’m taken by the notion that this month, in all of its simplicity, can hold so much wonder. The stillness of January, a welcome contrast to December’s hustle and bustle, gives us space to reflect on the journey of the past year, dream about the one ahead, and find contentment in winter’s slower pace.

This season can feel challenging with dark mornings and early sunsets. The wind chill alone can make us question why we choose to live here. Yet there is beauty tucked inside these colder months when we shift our perspective and settle into winter’s gentle stride. While we patiently await the warmth of spring on the horizon, we can choose to romanticize the season we are in and create small traditions that carry us through. It helps to remember that just like nature, some of our greatest growth begins in seasons of quiet reset.

This issue is filled with seasonal wonder, encouraging us to live well wherever we spend our time. For the brave outdoor lovers, there are plenty of ways to embrace the winter landscape. For those who prefer to keep things cozy, we’re highlighting stylish layered looks for winter from some of our favorite local boutiques, offering practical warmth with a touch of Montana flair. You’ll find ideas woven throughout the magazine to help you cultivate your own third space, a place where connection and community can flourish. You may also notice a subtle redesign as we are committed to evolving, staying fresh, and meeting our readers where they are. It’s the same thoughtful content you know and love, paired with new, approachable pieces you will not want to miss each month!

So, light a favorite candle and make a cup of tea as you settle in with a good book or this month’s issue of Simply Local and a cozy blanket for the evening. If you find yourself feeling more tired, lean into it rather than resist. Allow yourself to follow winter’s rhythm with a bit more rest, give yourself grace on the days that feel heavier, and go ahead and put on the comfy clothes at 5 p.m. There is real beauty in honoring what you need during this slower season. The story is still being written.

Happy New Year!

Love,
