When Maloree Everett and her husband, Jason, welcomed their first baby, Max, into the world, they weren’t just starting a new chapter; they were planting roots in their very first home together. After moving back to their hometown, the couple brought with them a clear vision: to create a space that felt peaceful, personal, and purposefully designed for family and connection.
Located in the West End neighborhood of The Nines, their modern ranch with an open-concept layout exudes warmth and calm without excess. “I wanted to walk in and immediately feel peace,” Maloree explains. That goal shaped every detail, from the soft, neutral palette to the trim-free door and window casings, which allow the clean architecture to shine.
But this home is about more than just aesthetics. It’s layered with meaning, literally. Before the flooring was installed, the couple wrote scripture on the subfloor of each room, choosing specific verses to reflect the purpose of each space. “It was important that the foundation of our home reflected what we believe in,” she shares.

DESIGNING WITH INTENT
The Everetts had a clear vision for their home but worked closely with their builder, Conner of CB Built, to bring it to life. They also partnered with local companies, such as Beyond the Box and One Source Lighting, to help source finishes and tie together the cohesive, clean aesthetic they had envisioned, particularly in the kitchen, where their vision truly came together.
Maloree draws design inspiration from Studio McGee’s approachable minimalism, favoring clean lines, warm tones, and functional elegance. “I’ve always admired that simple, timeless style that still feels polished and livable,” she says.
At the heart of the home is the kitchen, where Maloree spends much of her time with her young family. Three large concrete pendant lights, minimal yet bold, hang above a 16-foot island and serve as the space’s design anchor. Thoughtful touches, such as a hidden refrigerator and streamlined cabinetry, support the kitchen’s calm, uncluttered feel. “Lighting was one of the biggest inspirations for the kitchen,” she explains. “I wanted it to feel warm and grounded, not busy or overwhelming.”
Every appliance and utensil has its dedicated place, reinforcing the home’s organic and intentional vibe. “We wanted to design a space where everything had a home so we could appreciate the simplicity and clean lines,” she adds.

A HOME MADE FOR HOSTING
For this young family, entertaining is more than a hobby; it’s part of their home’s identity. “In our previous home, when we hosted people, everyone felt disconnected. There wasn’t a good flow,” Maloree says. “This time, we wanted a space where people could truly connect.”
That dream became reality with their annual summer soirée, a catered backyard gathering that brings friends and loved ones together. A large sliding door opens from the kitchen to a covered patio, allowing guests to flow easily between indoor and outdoor spaces. “Everyone can spread out but still feel together,” she says.
Though the home flows effortlessly from one space to the next, Maloree says her design goals are evolving. As their family grows, she hopes to incorporate more texture and color into each room. The beautifully built- in wood bench in their living room serves as a reminder and inspiration of the type of warmth and feeling that she aspires to continue adding. “I want to start taking more risks,” she shares. “I love the peaceful vibe, but I’m craving more personality—more individuality in each room, even if they don’t all perfectly match.”
A LEGACY OF WELCOME
Maloree’s passion for creating a warm, welcoming home is deeply rooted in family tradition. She fondly recalls the feeling of gathering at her aunt’s house growing up. “She always made people feel like they belonged. There was food everywhere, and no one ever left hungry or unseen.”
That same spirit of hospitality lives on in Maloree’s approach to design. Every element of the home, both indoors and out, is carefully crafted to create comfort and foster connection.
Whether she’s hosting friends under the stars or sipping coffee on the patio during her daughter’s nap time, Maloree has cultivated a home that feels grounded, peaceful, and real. “It’s still a work in progress,” she admits. “But we’re building something lasting; something that reflects who we are and what we value.”
In a world that often celebrates bigger, louder, and faster, the Everetts’ home is a quiet, beautiful reminder of what truly matters: connection, intention, and a space that makes room for both.
