5th Annual Community Diaper Drive: How can you help?

April 16, 2024

from United Way of Yellowstone County Media Release

Did you know that Billings has a Community Diaper Bank? Housed by Family Promise, it's a resource for families in Yellowstone County that provides diaper assistance for families in need. For a fifth year, United Way of Yellowstone County is partnering with Family Promise to host a Community Diaper Drive with a goal of collecting 50,000 diapers. Held on April 19 this year, diapers, wipes, and monetary donations may be dropped off at United Way (2173 Overland Avenue) from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

About the Community Diaper Bank

  • Community Diaper Bank hours: Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Located at: 10 South 26th Street

Costs of everything are on the rise, and diapers are not immune to those increases. With the average monthly cost of diapers averaging over $100 per child, families are feeling the pressure, and the Community Diaper Bank continues to see a dramatic increase in demand. For some families, impossible financial decisions are afoot; imagine having to choose between providing diapers for your child or paying your electric bill. Or having to choose between having groceries in your cupboards and putting gas in your car. The Community Diaper Bank aims to lessen that burden on families by providing assistance with diapers, wipes, formula, and other needed supplies, as available.

United Way is dedicated to promoting the health of the community. Research shows that babies who remain in soiled diapers for extended periods of time are subject to health risks. Not only is it a health concern, but the need for diapers can put families in financial crisis. UWYC aims to keep families out of crisis, making their connection to Family Promise and the Community Diaper Bank is an essential resource for families in Yellowstone County. UWYC’s continued partnership with Family Promise allows them to ensure the youngest community members have access to products that will give them the best and healthiest start to life.

The Community Diaper Drive will be held on April 19 from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. at the United Way office, 2173 Overland Avenue. The goal is set at 50,000 diapers. Last year, thanks to the generosity of the community, the Community Diaper Drive brought in 60,000 diapers and nearly 40,000 wipes. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to host their own diaper drive and drop off their collections during the event. Diapers of all sizes, wipes, and monetary donations will be accepted, while the greatest need is for size 4 and 5 diapers. The Community Diaper Bank is able to purchase three diapers for the cost of one, making monetary donations just as valued as physical donations.
