“There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.”
— Jane Austen
There’s something about this time of year that makes me want to slow down and soak it all in. Maybe it’s the colder evenings, the thought of gathering around the table, or simply having an excuse to spend a little more time at home with the people I love. Of course, November also seems to be when the holiday to-do lists begin to grow, and before we know it, we’re busy making plans, shopping for gifts, and trying to fit everything in. I have to remind myself sometimes that the best parts of the season rarely have anything to do with how much we accomplish.
It’s the conversations that stretch long after dinner, a visit from a friend I haven’t connected with for a while, or everyone lingering around the kitchen while something good is baking in the oven. Those are the moments I want more of, the ones we don’t necessarily plan for but end up remembering. And as much as I enjoy finding the perfect gift for someone, I’ve come to appreciate that giving our time and attention is just as meaningful. For this momma’s heart, the greatest gift truly is having all of my people under one roof. I don’t want to miss a minute of it.
That idea feels especially fitting for November, when we begin turning our minds to both Thanksgiving and the holidays ahead. Our 2026 Holiday Gift Guide is full of thoughtful finds and experiences from local businesses and makers, making it a little easier to shop close to home and support the people who give our community so much character. You’ll also find ideas for your Thanksgiving table, including tablescapes and pumpkin cheesecake, along with stories about kindness, local traditions, and the people who are making a difference in our community. I hope these pages encourage you to explore a little, try something new, and appreciate all the good things happening right here.
As the season gets busier, let’s leave a little space in our schedules for the things that matter most. Maybe that means inviting someone over even when the house isn’t quite ready, lingering over coffee instead of rushing off to the next thing, or making room at the table for one more. We don’t have to make every moment special. Sometimes we just have to be fully present for it.
Wishing you a season filled with good food, familiar faces, and time with the people who make life richer.
Happy Thanksgiving, friends.
