Diversity and Inclusion Require Action

The current work environment is filled with many challenges and opportunities. One of the opportunities that many executive teams face is diversifying the workplace while ensuring the inclusion of those who currently make up the work environment. This is a GREAT challenge for many! Be Better World partnered with the Billings Chamber in late January to offer a workshop providing organizations with tangible tools and resources to help navigate this very important topic!
The 4-hour workshop offered key stakeholders in the organization, including but not limited to Executive Leadership and Human Resources Professionals an in-depth look into the following:
- 4 Types of Diversity
- The 5 Myths related to inclusion
- Promoting Diversity within the workplace
- Putting P.I.V.O.T. to work
The workshop, which the Chamber and Be Better World plan to offer again, does not provide a "cookie-cutter" training that allows you to "check the box" that you attended Diversity and Inclusion training. The training was interactive, lively, and delved into uncomfortable conversations. Participants experienced growth by processing tough exchanges, actively participating in those dialogues without preconceived notions, and walking away with the actions necessary to ensure the work continuously happens in their organization!
Workshop attendees emerge from the training with several action steps they can take to truly begin the journey to being more inclusive in their workplaces. Some of the action steps include approaching their respective Human Resources Department about starting the Diversity and Inclusion conversation within the workplace without fear. Additionally, attendees were pointed to the Society of Human Resources Management (S.H.R.M.) portal, which allows them to keep up to date with tips and tools that help navigate the space of Diversity and Inclusion.
