"WHAT IS CHRISTMAS? IT IS THE TENDERNESS OF THE PAST,
COURAGE FOR THE PRESENT, AND HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.”
— AGNES M. PAHRO
I love everything about this time of the year. The décor, movies, presents, outfits, parties, cookies, gatherings, church services, cards, music, and lights… all of it. It’s a magical season, for sure, one that my mom orchestrated for my brother and me while growing up, and one I’ve always tried to recreate for my own family. The older I get, the more I find that my heart craves something simpler at the holidays. A return to the nostalgia of my childhood with the old-school, multi-colored lights strung across our humble home and the tree tinsel glimmering and shimmering.
The things I remember aren’t things at all, not the perfect gifts, décor, or outfits (although you can be sure I was rocking my new Christmas dress to every school program, choir concert, and Christmas Eve service I could). I remember the warmth of being surrounded by family, feeling warm and cozy, as we watched Rudolph and Frosty on live television. Driving around and looking at Christmas lights with blankets and hot cocoa in tow, trying to see through fogged-up windows. And the Christmas Eve candlelight service. Life wasn’t perfect then, and it isn’t perfect now, but this season always reminds me of hope amid hardships, light within darkness, and joy beyond our circumstances.
This year, I’m giving myself permission to slow down, do less,
and keep things simple. I want to protect my peace and focus on the true meaning of it all. I’ll still sprinkle a bit of sentiment throughout the house because that brings me joy. I’ll put thought into a few meaningful (yet beautifully wrapped) gifts. I’ll take time to quiet my soul and reflect on a year filled with blessings, pain, loss, growth, and answered prayers. Above all, I’ll remember why we celebrate and what this season truly represents.
This issue highlights the best parts of the season, especially the giving moments. Inside, you’ll find thoughtfully curated articles meant to inspire and encourage you as you choose the most meaningful gifts to give this year. Our 2025 Nonprofit Guide features amazing local organizations making a real difference in our community, providing opportunities for each of us to get involved and support our neighbors. Of course, we didn’t forget the sparkle. From designer-inspired decorating tips to festive events and delicious seasonal drinks, there’s plenty to enjoy in these pages.
Don’t miss the wonder hidden in the chaos. Don’t neglect the greatest gift while focusing on the small stuff. This season, truly experience it. Love the people around you. Give sincerely from your heart and yourself. Let the magic arise not from perfection, but from noticing each moment of every answered prayer.
Merry Christmas!
Love,
