As we prepare our hearts for the season, remember that a bit of sparkle can go a long way. I’ll never forget one year when my mom wrapped our gifts in the most beautiful pastel paper, shimmering with fine glitter, perfectly matching her tree. By Christmas morning, the glitter had spread everywhere: on our hands, faces, clothes, furniture, and even the carpet. For months afterward, we found traces of it everywhere and vowed never again to buy glitter wrapping paper! It’s a core family memory we laugh about every year.

Like glitter, the impact of giving can sparkle long after the moment has passed, touching others and spreading joy bit by bit. Sharing grace, hope, kindness, and love is at the heart of the Christmas season, and giving truly is better than receiving. Yet, it’s easy to lose sight of this amidst holiday happenings, with schedules, shopping, and the pursuit of perfect décor, gifts, and outfits. But when we strip it all back, it’s people (family, friends, neighbors…) who matter most. As you search for the perfect gifts this season, don’t forget the ones you already possess. Do you have a gift for leadership? Gather a group. Organizational skills? Lend a hand to someone in need. Time? Give it generously. Resources? Share them openly. Compassion? Offer it endlessly. A listening ear? Be present for others. The list is as endless as the needs around us.

This month’s issue offers thoughtful ideas for giving in Billings. May this season stop us in our tracks to recognize our blessings. May it remind us to bring light, life, and warmth everywhere we go. May it provide the opportunity for quiet reflection and joyful celebration. May we truly embrace the gift of giving ourselves freely and experiencing the fullness that comes from it. Go ahead and sprinkle that kindness everywhere like glitter!
