Candy or Cookie?—Two Different Recipes to Try this Labor Day

Whether you’ve been invited to a Labor Day BBQ, are hosting a BBQ, or are just planning a good old family dinner, you can’t go wrong with one of these creamy candy or cookie salads. The first is the Apple Snickers Salad often called Candy Apple Salad or Candy Caramel Apple Salad. Chewy, crunchy, and creamy textures combined with tart and sweet flavors, make this go-to potluck dish a favorite for anyone who tries it. The second recipe is Fudge Stripe Cookie Salad which I only came across this past Memorial Day when hosting a BBQ. One of our guests brought this dish and everyone at our place loved it, myself included. Once you try this one, you will have a hard time deciding between candy or cookie salad. If you love your food as much as I do, you’ll probably choose both!

Apple Snickers Salad

Ingredients:

  • 6 full size Snickers bars, chopped into bite-size pieces
  • 6 Granny Smith apples, chopped into bite-size pieces
  • 3.4 oz vanilla instant pudding
  • 8 oz Cool Whip
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Optional: Caramel topping (for drizzle)

Combine:

  1. Mix together dry pudding mix and milk and then allow to sit for 5 minutes
  2. Fold in Cool Whip
  3. Add apples and Snickers bars and gently mix (add optional grapes here, if desired)
  4. Optional: Drizzle caramel topping over the salad
  5. Refrigerate until serving

Fudge Stripe Cookie Fruit Salad

  • 8 fudge stripe cookies, broken into bite-size pieces
  • 2, 3.4 oz packages vanilla instant pudding

Choose:

  • 11 oz mandarin oranges
  • 20 oz pineapple tidbits (drained)
  • 2 bananas, sliced into bite size pieces
  • Note: I have not tried mixing more than one fruit but it might be something to try!
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 16 oz Cool Whip

Combine:

  1. Mix together dry pudding mix and buttermilk (this will be thick)
  2. Fold in Cool Whip
  3. Mix in fruit of choice and cookies
  4. Keep refrigerated until serving (note that the cookies may get soggy the longer it sits especially with mandarin or pineapple)
