406 Jersey Day Raising Funds for Vital SD2 Food Insecurity Programs

The Friday ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools (EFBPS) is inviting the community to don their favorite jersey and help raise money to support School District 2's vital food insecurity programs. 406 Jersey Day raises funds for SD2's food insecurity programs, BackPack Meals and Food Pantries. This year's event is sponsored by First Federal Bank and Trust.
The Food Insecurity Program, which consists of BackPack Meals and Pantries, are some of the most important programs the Foundation manages for students in need in Billings Public Schools. The number of students relying on the Foundation’s Food Insecurity programs has grown more than 25% this year with approximately 900 - 1,000 kids receiving direct meal support each week. An average of 485 elementary students receive BackPack Meals each weekend and approximately 500 middle and high school students rely on the pantries to provide evening and weekend nutrition. We’re feeding more students than ever before to ensure they don’t face hunger outside of school."Kelly McCandless, Executive Director of the Education Foundation
Both programs are managed by the EFBPS and are 100% donor-supported. “As the need for this program grows, the Foundation is committed to ensuring its sustainability,” noted Shelley Pierce, Development and Community Relations Manager for the Foundation. “Community support through events like this helps ensure we can continue these programs into the future,” Pierce said.
The Foundation is inviting businesses to participate by encouraging their employees to donate to the Food Insecurity program and sport their favorite jersey or team shirt on February 9. Businesses interested in participating may contact the Foundation at: pierces@billingsschools.org.
