  • Family Reading Program. Begins January 23 and runs through February 29. Billings Public Library. Family Reading encourages families to develop the habit of reading aloud together. Studies have shown that children who are read aloud to have improved language skills and are more successful in school. Pick up a Family Reading postcard at the Children’s Desk and initial a stocking cap on the postcard for every day the family reads together for 20 minutes a day. Family = 2 people, with one person being 12 or younger. Once a family has read for 20 days return the postcard to the Children’ Desk for a book, coupons from local businesses as supplies last and an entry into a drawing for a special grand prize. Fuddrucker’s, This House of Books and ZooMontana sponsor family Reading.
  • 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. Billings Public Library. A national initiative to increase early childhood literacy. The purpose behind this program is to foster the love of reading at an early age and encourage parent and child bonding through reading. Download the ReadSquared app and record the books you and your child read together. Earn prizes and prepare your child to learn to read and write! www.billingspubliclibrary.org/1000books.
  • Take & Make Kits. Billings Public Library Children's Desk. Start of each month. First come, first served. No registration required. 
  • Citizen Science Kits available at Billings Public Library Children's Desk. Citizen science is real scientific research done by people like you and me! It's perfect for all ages and great for family activities. No prior scientific knowledge is required, simply a willingness to learn and participate.
