March 2025 Editor's Note: Adventure Awaits
March 2025

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”
-ANNE LAMOTT, AUTHOR
Last month, I finally acted on something I had been putting off for months: I took a social media fast. I’d felt the nudge for a while but kept making excuses: I need it for work. It helps me unwind. I want to stay connected with family and friends. But when I finally bit the bullet and temporarily deactivated my accounts, guess what happened? The world kept turning. I didn’t lose touch with the people who truly matter; they all have my phone number. My work didn’t suffer; in fact, my productivity improved. And, to my surprise, I felt more content and connected than ever. After all, social media is a highlight reel that is not to be mistaken for real life. Genuine connection comes from doing life together and having real and honest conversations. Being fully present in the moments shared.
We live in a world that constantly demands our attention. We’ve grown so accustomed to instant gratification that we’ve forgotten the value of pausing. Taking a moment before responding. Thinking twice before buying and simply sitting in stillness without reaching for our phones. March 7 marks the National Day of Unplugging, and maybe, like me, it’s exactly what you and your family need.
Step away from the screens, breathe in the fresh air, and gain a little perspective. Use the time to reconnect with yourself, your loved ones, and the world around you. Lead by example and see if you can make unplugging a regular rhythm in your life. You might be surprised at the clarity and joy that come from the space between notifications.
With spring’s arrival (and hopefully warmer days ahead), this issue jump-starts summer planning with our 2025 Summer Camps & Activities Guide, your go-to resource for crafting an unforgettable summer! We’re also shining a light on Billings Parks & Recreation and how they enrich our community, from outdoor adventures to programs for all ages and stages of life. Our family feature explores the 1000 Hours Outside movement in the spirit of unplugging, inspiring more time in nature and fewer screens. And for all the pizza lovers out there, get ready to drool over our delicious deep dive into local pizza joints and must-try pies.
Here’s to embracing the season ahead; let’s make it one to remember!
Love,
