Christmas Morning Cinnamon Coffee Cake Recipe

The best memories of Christmas at home with our families are supported by the sights and smells of food! This easy Christmas morning coffee cake is sure to become a family holiday tradition.

We typically start this recipe two days in advance. With the warm glow of Christmas and family in our hearts, my daughters and granddaughter enjoy our time in the kitchen preparing special treats like this whenever we’re together.

Cinnamon Coffee Cake Recipe

(Measure this cinnamon-cocoa mixture into a container with a tight-fitting lid and set aside.)

  • 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
  • 4 ½ Teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon

  • 1 Cup Butter (room temperature)
  • 8-ounce package cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 ½ Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ Teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 ¼ Cup flour
  • 1 ½ Teaspoon baking powder
  • ¾ Cup chopped pecans (optional)

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter. Beat in cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour and baking powder. Stir until smooth.

If you’re not planning to bake this immediately, store the batter in a plastic storage container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to assemble. When you’re ready to bake, preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

Generously grease a 10" tube pan and sprinkle chopped pecans over the bottom. Spoon half of the cake batter over the pecans. Cover with half of the cinnamon-cocoa mixture. Spoon remaining batter into the pan. Top with the remaining cinnamon-cocoa mixture. Bake at 325 degrees for 65-75 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then invert cake onto wire rack to finish cooling.

The pronounced cinnamon flavor with a hint of chocolate makes this an exceptional Christmas morning coffee cake!
