A Crowded Table
"I want a house with a crowded table and a place by the fire for everyone."
— “CROWDED TABLE” BY THE HIGHWOMEN-
As the air cools and daylight fades a little earlier each evening, I find myself craving connection more than ever. There’s something about this season that stirs a longing for warmth, not just the kind that flickers in a fireplace but the kind that comes from being surrounded by the people who fill our lives with meaning.
I’ve been thinking a lot about that lyric from The Highwomen and how it captures what most of us truly want: a place to belong. A home filled with voices and laughter, where everyone feels seen and welcome, and where love shows up in the details. An extra plate set at the table, a pie shared just because, or a conversation that lingers long after coffee and dessert. It reminds me that life isn’t about picture-perfect moments but about the ones that unfold naturally when we make time and room for one another.
This issue feels like an extension of that spirit. We’re kicking off the holiday season with our highly anticipated 2025 Holiday Gift Guide, filled with thoughtful ideas for everyone on your list and a focus on supporting real people right here in our community. From handcrafted treasures to local experiences, these gifts carry stories and connections that cannot be found in a shipping box. You’ll also find inspiring features honoring Native American Heritage Month, highlighting artists, educators, and entrepreneurs whose work continues to shape, strengthen, and celebrate our region’s cultural richness. And as we lean into this season of gratitude, we explore the health benefits of thankfulness, learning how a grateful heart can shift our mindset, reduce stress, and bring peace even in life’s busiest moments.
That is the heart of this month’s issue. It is about gathering around tables, in community spaces, and in spirit. It is about choosing connection over perfection and generosity over hurry. Whether it is a Friendsgiving feast, a cozy night by the fire, or a quiet moment to pause and give thanks, may we remember that abundance is not measured by how much we have but by how freely we share it.
So, here’s to crowded tables and open hearts. To the people who make our houses feel like homes. And to the joy that comes from pulling up one more chair.
Happy Thanksgiving, friends.
Love,
