What's in the Case at Tippet Rise? More Than You'd Expect

At Tippet Rise Art Center, the food is far from an afterthought. Chef Chris Lockhart of PREROGATIvE Kitchen was on-site the day we visited, running the grab-and-go case tucked into the visitor center. It turns what could be a simple pit stop into part of the experience itself. Between monumental sculptures and sweeping Montana views, having genuinely good, fresh food on hand makes the visit feel truly complete.

What we tried:

We sampled three standouts from the case. The Tuna Poke Bowl was a highlight, fresh and crisp with just enough spice to keep every bite interesting. The Prime Rib sandwich, piled with herbed onions and horseradish mayo, is exactly what you need after a long hike or, in our case, bike ride. Finally, the Smoked Trout Salad rounded things out, lighter and smokier, showing just how much range is packed into that small case.

Full food case lineup:

 Sandwiches

  • Prime Rib, Herbed Onions, Horseradish Mayo
  • Turkey, Swiss, Pesto
  • Portobello Mushroom, Kimchi, Gochujang
  • Chicken Curry Salad (dairy-free)

 Salads & Bowls

  • Garden Salad, plain or with protein
  • Tuna Poke Bowl (my favorite)
  • Smoked Trout Salad
  • Chicken Curry

 Drinks

  • La Colombe Triple Latte
  • Kombucha
  • San Pellegrino Ciao!
  • Montana Silver Springs sparkling water

Tippet Rise built its reputation on the pairing of world-class art and untouched Montana landscape, but PREROGATIvE Kitchen proves the food deserves equal praise. It's the kind of meal that makes you want to slow down rather than rush to the next stop, which, in a place designed entirely around taking your time, feels exactly right.
